Personal protection...

A protection training program teaches qualified dogs to protect individuals, families, and property while remaining an affectionate and safe pet. Our balanced training methods enhance the dog's natural suspicion and protection instincts through confidence building, not through intimidation or force. This training includes the dog recognizing a threat, giving the alert command, and calling a dog out for effective and controlled protection. To qualify for this type of training a pre-enrollment evaluation must be completed. All dogs must be obedience trained on and off leash before beginning this program.

A personal protection dog is a dog that can be trained for an aggressive display upon command. Depending on the dog, this may range from an alert dog (aggressive barking) to a dog that will defend against an attacker.

Personal protection dogs are not and should not be used as guard dogs. In today's society, guard dogs in homes are unsupervised and may be indiscriminate as to who is or isn't an intruder. This can lead to unfortunate attacks of children, law enforcement, firemen, mailmen, meter-readers, etc. Personal protection dogs are for owners who have firm control of their dog, and are law-abiding citizens seeking a last resort option of defense from an attacker.

In some cases, such as a dominant aggressive dog, or a dog with a high suspicion level, personal protection is taught to control aggression that is being shown at inappropriate times. In this case, the goal is to teach definite lines between when aggression is, or isn't appropriate. Often a dog might be naturally protective and due to inappropriate praise, will become aggressive indiscriminately. Personal protection teaches the dog that only the handler can discern whether or not aggression should be shown.

You and your dog will be required to have on-leash, off-leash and a pre-enrollement evaluation.
