Assistance Dog Certification Testing...

Step one: Canine Good Citizen certified
Dog must already have been tested and passed for the American Kennel Clubs Canine Good Citizen test.
Step two: On-leash obedience
Full round of on leash obedience. Dog must be reliable in high distraction areas performing: Heel w/ auto-sit, sit, down at the side, sit from down, sit and down in motion, sit and down from front and come.
Step three: Off-leash obedience
Full round of off leash obedience. Dog must be reliable in high distraction areas performing these commands with out the use of a leash: Heel w/ auto-sit, sit, down at the side, sit from down, sit and down in motion, sit and down from front and come.
Step four: Hold sit and down for minimum of 5 minutes
Dog must be able to maintain a sit and a down for a minimum of 5 minutes without breaking the command.
Step five: Soft mouth retrieval
Dog must be able to gently pick up dowel off of multiple surfaces on command without leaving teeth marks.
Step six: Pick up credit card, set of keys and quarter
Dog is required to gently pick up a credit card without leaving teeth marks on either side, a set of keys and a quarter off of a flat, hard surfaced floor and hand them to you on command.
Step seven: Open and close door
Dog is required to open the door on command, you must pass through it, and the dog will then close the door on command.
Step eight: Left to right heel
As the dog is walking in the heel position on your left side, on command your dog must fall behind you to the right side and heel with you on the right side.
Step nine: Turn light switch on and off
On command, your dog must turn on a light switch, come back to your side, and return to turn the switch and turn it off.
Step ten: Store walk through
The dog must calmly and confidently walk through a store of trainer’s choice and remain under control for the duration of the test.
Step eleven: Sit through a meal
The dog must sit or lie calmly and quietly during the duration of a meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) in a restaurant of trainer’s choice. The dog must not beg or be a nuisance to owner or other patrons of the restaurant.
