Assisting the disabled...

Assistance functions use various skills like scent detection, soft-mouth retrieval and off-leash obedience combined to complete tasks that assist in everyday life. This may be opening drawer and retrieving objects, finding objects, or getting the mail. Dogs are capable of many complicated tasks, if patience and the proper instruction are provided.

Dogs are able to learn and complete anything they are physically and mentally capable of doing. For this reason, many people use dogs to help them in their every day lives to make living more comfortable.

You and your dog will be required to have the minimum of on-leash, off-leash, soft mouth retrieval and scent detection.

Once your dog has completed the service training, they will be required to take the certification test. This is an eleven step requirement test. Once the dog has successfully completed all eleven steps, they will become a "Desert Dogs Assistance Canine" and will be officailly certified through Desert Dogs Canine Training and Behavior Modification.
